A Few Of My Favorite Summer Things!

June 28, 2018 by Guiomar Barbi

Summer is my favorite time of year! As you get ready to party by the pool, stay cool or add that je ne sais quoi to make you look radiant, I’ve got you covered.

The Spa Dress

The Spa Dress is a slip-on-towel that doesn't drop when you need a towel to stay UP!

It’s practical for everything as a dress-before-you-dress but versatile as a sundress or skirt on the beach, by the pool or anywhere your spa excursion takes you, at home or away.

Toasteworthy

Want to Make Your Party POP?!

If you’re in the DC area, you must have Toastworthy at your next soiree! It’s a vintage airstream/mobile champagne pop-up bar with an interactive photo booth. They had me at MOBILE champs bar!! Ideal for weddings, birthday bashes or any special event, they’ll help you capture the moments in life that are worth toasting.

Gekks

C’mon admit it….your feet stink! Yes, they do! In the summer, all feet stink! Not only do your feet smell, but your shoes smell too! And socks, well, socks pose all sorts of problems. You're constantly adjusting no show socks from sliding down your heel, and they still show. Gekks, solve all these problems. Just peel backing of Gekks into your shoe, apply a little pressure, and you’ve essentially got an adhesive footie that no one will see! You can refresh Gekks by washing them or rubbing hand sanitizer on the adhesive surface…for reals!

This wanderlust Traveler is inspired by all that she sees and everything that surrounds her. Every moment and experience contributes to her on-going growth as a designer and is reflected in all the collections she creates.

Baked Bear

Baked Bear

Founders Rob Robbins and Shane Stanger opened the first Baked Bear, in San Diego, four years ago. They have slowly expanded east, and have finally opened in North Bethesda’s booming, Pike & Rose.  You mix and match freshly baked brownies, doughnuts, and cookies…YES…ALL THREE CHOICES…. for the top and bottom. You stuff this delectable “sandwich” with yummy ice cream flavors like rocky road, salted caramel, and ‘bear batter.’ But wait, it gets better! Your delicacy is “pressed” in a magical machine that warms the top and bottom but keeping the ice cream cold in the center, before they are rolled in toppings. Options include brownie bits, Fruity Pebbles, mini chocolate chips, and whipped cream, among others.

MOIC Miami is HOT!

February 26, 2018 by Guiomar Barbi

Sunshine, lollipops, rainbows and of course, ice cream!

One of the most Instagrammable locations in Miami, and let’s be real, there are MANY, has announced its staying open through Spring Break! The famed Museum of Ice Cream, is keeping its doors open until April 29 and then it’s back to Miami being muy caliente!

Your last chance tix go on sale tomorrow (2/27) at 11 a.m. Get  tickets online for$38. Kids 3 and under are free.

Right on Collins Ave. (3400 to be exact), the MOIC, is open Wednesdays through Mondays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.. Other institution locations include New York, LA, and San Fran.

Maryellis Bunn, the brilliant mastermind behind MOIC, was inspired from Miami and Miami Beach (who isn’t?!) and included distinctive minutiae, like a key lime pie ice cream flavor, into the museum’s eight different rooms.

Bubblegum pink EVERYTHING, reminiscent of MIA’s sultry scene, adorns the outside of the building and it’s all uphill from there!

All the rooms in the four-story building at Museum of Ice Cream Miami are enchanting!

Navigating Miami’s MOIC:

There’s only one-way up the museum’s four floors. Stay as long as you want in each room but you can’t go backward.

There is an elevator for people with special needs.

Treats must be finished or trashed in each room before moving on to the next room.

Museum guides are camera happy and delighted to snap, snap, snap your photos.

Post, post, post all pics!#museumoficecream @ museumoficecream

Make sure to choose your outfit wisely!

The Bunns Shake Room has a conveyor belt that sends milkshakes to an ice cream bar (wow!).  It also has a gold glitter floor and retro video game console.

FAN-tastic is an ice cream-themed dance studio with fans fashioned as pink ice cream cones. You can even work with a museum guide to choreograph a little diddy.  Or, you know, go freestyle!

Safari has a banana swing, pink palm trees and a Coconut Cave. I think I had you at banana swing! Need I say more?!

Taste melted ice cream in Food Fight. Ummm. I’ll tast ice cream in any form thank you very much!

The kiddies will LOVE the Sand Castle room. They (and you!!!) can play in pink sand to create their own sculpture, evocative of visits to the beach. I foresee lots of green gingham dresses to go all Lily Pulitzer in this room!

Sweet Sculpture Studio is an opportunity to build your own masterpiece with colorful blocks. Kinda like Legos but better and in an ice cream museum! Hello!

Pop some local goodies in your mouth at Pop, Also, strike a pose in front of a cascading wall of pink, red, blue and yellow popsicles. The popsicles are fake but you wish they were real! Start coordinating those outfits now!

And of course, there’s the Sprinkle Pool. They even have lockers where to store your stuff, gold showerheads, and naturally, a pool full of sprinkles. Not real sprinkles you can devour, but plastic sprinkles. No Diving In the Pool, please!

Have fun! AZUCAR!

Dreaming of Cape May

September 06, 2017 by Guiomar Barbi

This morning, Facebook reminded me that two years ago, my family was in magical Cape May, NJ. We had never been and made the last minute decision that Labor Day weekend to trek out there. We drove from DC to Lewes, DE and took the ferry to Cape May. It was an unexpected, unplanned adventure that was truly magical.....as most of those turn out to be!

While we have our photographs that remind us of that amazing weekend, Jennifer from Modern Map Art made this wonderful map of Cape May for us. Check out their website and customize your family's memories as well!
